Sara Tucci,

Was born on December 19, 1979 in Naples, Italy. After her degree in Pharmacy she moved to Germany where she worked at the Institute of Molecular Evolution with Prof. Dr. Bill Martin. In December 2008 she granted her PhD with a thesis on the mitochondrial fatty acid biosynthesis and wax ester fermentation in the unicellular eukaryote Euglena gracilis.  In 2009 she joined the Laboratory of Metabolic Diseases of the Children’s Hospital in Düsseldorf as Postdoc. She further specialized on fatty acid oxidation disorders with a main focus on the murine model of very long-chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency (VLCAD-/- mouse). In December 2012 she moved to the Laboratory of Clinical Biochemistry and Metabolism in Freiburg together with Prof. Dr. Ute Spiekerkötter where she was also responsible for the development of functional and molecular diagnosis of fatty acid oxidation disorders. Since 2015 Sara Tucci has been working docent with an own research group. Her main interest is the regulation of energy metabolism due to the interaction of mitochondrial fatty acid biosynthesis and degradation. To date, her work was already awarded several research prizes.
